August 9Aug 9 so i've been sitting on this decision for like three weeks now and im driving myself crazy. i currently have both on my desk, borrowed the FTDX10 from a club member to compare side by side before i commit to selling one off. my main thing is HF casual operating, some digital modes, maybe enter a contest here and there but im not a serious contester by any means.the 7300 i already know inside and out, had it for two years, the SDR panadapter is just so nice to use and everything is where you expect it to be. but the FTDX10 receiver honestly does seem a little cleaner to me on 40m when the band is busy, hard to tell if thats placebo or real. the roofing filter situation on the Yaesu is supposedly better on paper but i dont know how much that matters for what i actually do.anyone gone through this comparison or switched from one to the other? not looking for spec sheets, just real world impressions from people who actually use these things
August 9Aug 9 kept the 7300 after a similar back and forth about a year ago. for casual operating and digital the icom just makes more sense to me, wsjt-x integration is dead simple, the touchscreen grows on you fast. the FTDX10 is a nicer receiver no question but youre not chasing DX in a pile-up on a contest weekend so i honestly dont think youll feel the difference on a random tuesday evening on 40m working the usual crowd.the other thing nobody talks about enough is the menu system on the yaesu, its not bad but its not as intuitive and when youre just hopping on for an hour after work you dont want to be digging around. just my take, both are solid rigs and you cant really go wrong either way.
August 9Aug 9 FTDX10 guy here, switched from an older icom about 18 months ago. the rx really is noticeably better when 40m gets crowded friday nights, thats not placebo, you can hear it. that said the 7300 ui is genuinely more polished and if youre doing a lot of FT8 the direct usb audio on the icom is just less hassle to set up. i think it comes down to whether you prioritize the operating experience or the out-of-the-box ease of use if that makes sense. also the FTDX10 runs a bit warm, mine gets pretty toasty after a long session, never had an issue but its something i noticed.
